The Jury of 100 is composed of 100 world-leading sustainability scientists from a spectrum of academic disciplines. Jury Members are not paid for evaluating nominations and casting their vote. They act completely independently from the Foundation, National Nominating and National Representative Bodies.
Chairman of the Jury
Johan Rockström
Prof. Dr. Johan Rockström is the Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor at the Institute of Earth and Environmental Science at Potsdam University.
Rockström is an internationally recognized scientist on global sustainability issues, who led the development of the new Planetary Boundaries framework for human development in the current era of rapid global change at the Stockholm Resilience Centre. He is a leading scientist on global water resources, with about 25 years of experience from applied water research in tropical regions, and more than 150 research publications in fields ranging from applied land and water management to global sustainability.
Aside from his research helping to guide policy, Rockström consults several governments and business networks. He also acts as an advisor for sustainable development issues at noteworthy international meetings, such as the World Economic Forum, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conferences (UNFCCC). Supplementary, he chairs the advisory board for the EAT Foundation and the Earth League.
As Chairperson of the Jury of 100 Johan established the Jury and will manage its operations in full independence.

The national and international winners of the Frontiers Planet Prize will be designated by the Jury of 100 whose composition reflects the full spectrum of expertise needed to judge the multidisciplinary nature of the breakthrough science the planet prize is looking for.
As the Jury of 100 is composed of world-leading sustainability scientists, there can be no doubt that the selected science will be amongst the most important science that the world has to offer.
Each member of the Jury of 100 will act completely independently from the Foundation or any of the Nominating and Representative Bodies involved and only interact with the Chair of the Jury.
